It wasn’t Yemi’s first time in Lagos. He had been here once or twice, carried by the arms of his Father, Durojaiye Obasa in his early days. His memories of Lagos consist of food and family events but now he is about to start living here fully. Yemi’s work requires him to relocate completely to Lagos for easy transport.

Now that he is new in town, he has the fear of not knowing his way around and he is not very sure of how he feels about the sudden change.

A middle class, 28 year old man trying to find his curve in a new city especially one that had so many stories of helping people develop the fourth sense “being street wise” through diverse and not so pleasant experiences. Yemi was determined not to be scammed or be termed a novice.

This was the beginning of his life here in Lagos and he won’t be a scapegoat, that he swore to himself but where will he start from. Sitting on a brown sofa in his living room, in a white singlet and black shorts. His long legs stretched and relaxed under the working ceiling fan.

Today is Friday, he resumes work on Monday and he is in need of a lot of things to aid his new life. “Firstly, I will need to find a plumber and a painter” he thought to himself. The problem wasn’t finding one but finding who he can trust to deliver a good service and not leave him stranded.

Yemi’s mind went back to his remote village, where everyone knew each other and it was such a safe community. He wasn’t so sure he could find such in Lagos.

He thought back to Mama Kunle’s pot of soup and hot amala with the bubbling “brokoto” and various garnishing. He’s mind travelled to and fro reminding him of the luxury he no longer had and the thought of how to settle himself in this city. In the middle of this great brooding that troubled his heart, he’s phone rings. It was the HR of his company calling.

The Head of human resources wants to know how he’s faring and if he is ready for Monday’s work. After discussing the resumption work details and assignment. Yemi decides to bring up the need for a painter and plumber. He could at least start with that.

“You are right, Lagos can be a bit scary concerning who to trust when in need of services and who not to trust but so is everywhere else.” The HR informed him.

“…. but I know a place you can get quality services from, an online platform to be precise”

“Are you sure sir? All this online platform, I’m a bit sceptical”

“Ohhh, don’t worry, they have been tested and can be trusted. They are also a registered company in Nigeria and they offer a whole lot of services”
